Working Internationally - Middle East
HP experience in the Middle East includes projects in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. HP is the Structural Engineer for Foster and Partners’ Central Market project for ALDAR, which is a redevelopment of the central Souk Market in the middle of Abu Dhabi. HP’s scope of services for this project includes Construction Administration which required the establishment of another office in Abu Dhabi. Two full-time HP employees are on the ground in Abu Dhabi coordinating the structural services through construction with the client, contractors and Municipality.
HP’s experience in the region enables us to provide services that take into account unique challenges in design in the Arabian Peninsula. In order ensure reinforcement corrosion issues were addressed sufficiently, HP established relationships with key consultants. These partnerships allowed HP to be more prescriptive with concrete mix development and to ensure that structural protection systems appropriately addressed the corrosion threat. Additionally, HP’s experience with international contractors in the region, allows us to understand the constraints of construction practices in the region and specific material cost premiums in the region.
HP was also involved in the development of structural concepts for four signature towers in the Jumeirah Garderns Development, designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill (AS+GG). HP continued on and delivered Concept Design with AS+GG for two of the towers, One Dubai and East Park 7.
