2008 SEAOI Awards: Best Large Structure Award - Caja Madrid

The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) presented the 2008 Excellence in Structural Engineering Award for Best Large Structure to Halvorson and Partners for Caja Madrid in Spain at its annual design competition in June. Caja Madrid was recognized for its astonishing column free base that was created by suppo rting the entire weight of the building on only its two end cores, which allows the slender 820 foot (250 m) tower to efficiently resist wind loads and avoid uplifts.
