The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings:
CTBUH Special Edition, Issue 1, December 2007
Robert Halvorson and Carrie Warner
The striking form for the Russia Tower building evolved through a collaborative process between architect, Foster + Partners of London, and structural engineer Halvorson and Partners of Chicago. The innovative “braced spine” structural system developed through this process is an efficient concept for super-tall structures and was a direct response to design challenges on this project. These challenges and the design process between Foster + Partners and Halvorson are discussed in this paper.
