2010 SEAOI Awards: UAE Pavilion, Eric Fenske and Elysian

Halvorson and Partners is again honored with multiple awards at the Annual Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) Awards.
Best Medium Structure: The UAE Pavilion, an exhibition space highlighting the United Arab Emirates at the Shanghai Exposition in 2010, was awarded Best Structure in the Medium Sized Projects category. This unique shell structure is inspired by the sand dune landscape of the UAE, and spans 60 m with a light steel diagrid shell structure.
Young Engineer of the Year: Eric Fenske was named the Young Engineer of the Year. Eric has been integral in engineering a number of creative structures around the world - including the Central Market in Abu Dhabi, the Index Tower in Dubai and the UAE Pavilion in Shanghai noted above.
Large Structure Merit Award: The Elysian Tower, a slender, high-performance structure in Chicago, won an Award of Merit in the Large Project category - which included the new world's tallest Burj Khalifa. The Elysian features tuned liquid dampers to achieve acceptable motion perception limits.
