Robert Halvorson, the founding Principal of Halvorson and Partners, has 35 intensive years of experience in the design of tall buildings. Halvorson received a BS degree from Cornell University in Civil Engineering and a MS degree from Stanford University in Structural Engineering. He began his career at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in 1975, became a Partner in 1985 (the youngest Partner of SOM ever), and became the Partner in Charge of Structural Engineering for SOM in 1992. He was the Partner in Charge of the structural group at SOM during the design of the 421 m tall Jin Mao Tower.

He formed Halvorson and Partners in 1996, with one of the firm’s first commissions being the peer review of the structural design of the Petronas Towers to resolve technical issues found during its construction. Since then, the firm has grown to provide structural engineering on a variety of tall building projects world-wide.

Halvorson led HP’s designs for the recently completed 340 m tall Index Building in Dubai, the 380 m tall Central Market Towers in Abu Dhabi and the re-constructible UAE Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. He has also developed the structural concepts for a number of super-tall towers, which H+P has taken through schematic design and design development, including: One Park Avenue Tower (600 m) in Dubai, One Dubai Towers (600+ m), the Russia Tower (600 m) in Moscow, the competition-winning entry for Suning tower (600 m) in Nanjing, and competition-winning entry for Greenland Tower (600 m) in Wuhan.

Halvorson is a Fellow of both the American Society of Civil Engineers and The Institution of Structural Engineers in the United Kingdom.
