James Swanson is a 25 year, industry leading structural engineer whose professional reputation consists of completing complex, multimillion-dollar projects on time and under budget. His career features extensive project management experience in a variety of state-of-the-art developments high-rise, long span and transportation structures. Jim began his career at SOM, where he was integral in such projects as the Broadgate Development in London, the Hotel Vila Olimpica in Barcelona, and conceptual design for the 80-story Dearborn Tower in Chicago. Before joining H+P, he also led the full structural design for the new Midway International Airport facility in Chicago.
In his twelve years with H+P, Jim has engineered a range of complex projects, including the 48-story Hyatt Headquarters, a new Convention Center complex in Chicago and the VietinBank Business Center (360 m and 240 m towers) in Hanoi. Jim’s technical expertise has also helped owners and teams on a number of Concept advisements, Peer Reviews and Competitions around the world, including South Korea, Jordan, Egypt, and China.
Jim is a on the Wind committee for the American Society of Civil Engineers, and is also a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction and Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
