As part of a multi-phased development to offer state-of-the-art facilities to Loyola students, H+P is collaborating with SCB on a new 125,000 square foot student center. Linking to the existing intramural Halas Hall, it offers new space for a variety of student organizations and religious groups, as well as recreational spaces and a food court. Situated within 10 feet of the CTA red line, H+P and the team carefully coordinated the structure and deep basement to avoid adverse impact on the adjacent tracks. The efficient steel structure is topped with a feature green roof and integrated skylights. In line with Loyola’s consistent focus on efficiency and sustainability, the project will receive a minimum of LEED silver rating – although LEED points are a result, rather than the goal, in their long-term planning.
