School District 230’s substantial additions to these three schools—including classroom, library, dining, performing arts and gymnasium facilities—totaled 400,000 sf. Halvorson and Partners worked with the design team to develop exposed architectural steel systems for all components of the projects. Both visual and structural appropriateness had to be considered for all steel framing members, columns, steel deck and connections. The visual aspects were particularly important and complex due to the curved and angled geometries of the school additions.
