Schaumburg Convention Center Complex

Capitalizing on its proximity to O’Hare International Airport, the village of Schaumburg developed this new convention center complex. A multi-purpose exhibition hall was envisioned, which would also serve as a venue for sporting events and other performances. This was realized in an 240' x 360' column-free space, which far exceeds the standard convention hall. An 18-story hotel is linked to the hall through a series of ballrooms and a future 2,400-seat theater will provide a third site anchor. Several free standing structures, including elevated pedestrian arcades, tie in the surrounding landscape. For this ‘balanced site’, spread footings below the exhibition hall were supported on backfill from other areas of this site, offering considerable savings. HP designed the structure to accommodate the differential settlements predicted for this foundation system.
