The new headquarters for AMCOL International Corporation, one of the world’s leading suppliers of bentonite and bentonite-related products, presented an ideal opportunity for integrating and show-casing the building materials that AMCOL supplies in the in the construction industry. Aiming for LEED Silver certification, this bio-friendly, steel framed office and laboratory building is crowned by extensive green roof systems with high-quality waterproofing and roofing, all of which are products of AMCOL International. HP worked closely with Gensler to efficiently structure the green roof framing. Composite framing provides an efficient structure—its light weight keeps foundations at a minimum and reduces excavation on the site, which is adjacent to natural wetlands. Vibrations were carefully checked, especially in the laboratory areas housing sensitive equipment.
