The new headquarters for AMCOL International Corporation, one of the world’s leading suppliers of bentonite and bentonite-related products, presented an ideal opportunity for integrating and show-casing the building materials that AMCOL supplies in the construction industry. Aiming for LEED Silver certification, this bio-friendly, steel-framed office and laboratory building will be crowned by extensive green roof systems with high-quality waterproofing and roofing, all of which are products of AMCOL International. HP worked closely with Gensler to efficiently structure the green roof framing. Composite framing provides an efficient structure — its light weight keeps foundations at a minimum and reduces excavation on the site, which is adjacent to natural wetlands. Vibrations were carefully checked, especially in the laboratory areas housing sensitive equipment.
