Projects:
20-24 East Chicago Avenue, Loyola University
Chicago, Illinois
Education, Mixed-use
under construction
In order to open classrooms by Fall 2009, the design for this mixed-use building at Loyola's downtown campus had to be fast-tracked. Solomon Cordwell Buenz and Halvorson and Partners teamed to produce full building drawings for bid and permit in just two months, with full foundation documents issued for bid and construction at the halfway point. The steel structure for this five-story building, which combines three levels for classroom use above retail and office functions, was optimized for minimum depths and weights. In order to link to the adjacent 15-story graduate school of business, HP designed modifications to its existing lateral bracing - including the removal of existing braces and integration of new braces around the linking walk-through.
