This 77,000 square foot addition to Loyola University's existing Gentile Center basketball arena will house offices, conference rooms, lockers, and training and practice facilities for all athletic teams. HP designed an efficient composite structure to provide a curved footprint and a series of cantilevered corners with a minimal cost premium. Although general coordination within the design team relied on traditional 2D approaches, Halvorson and Partners utilized Revit Structure for highly efficient drawing production and internal coordination. 3D PDFs of the Revit model were generated and help to communicate the design intent with other members of the design team. Additionally, a model of the existing Gentile Center was create, which, when overlaid with the model of the new structure, checks for spacial conflicts.
