Montgomery Tower

Chicago, Illinois

Renovation

completed

This former Montgomery Ward's Headquarters in River North was converted from a 28-story office building to luxury condos in 2004. Renovating the original 1972 design by Minoru Yamasaki -- architect of the World Trade Center in New York City -- involved replacing the façade with blue-green tinted glass and aluminum accents, which allowed for spectacular views through 10 foot floor-to-ceiling windows. Balconies were also added in the narrow space between the travertine-clad end columns. A glass-wrapped circular parking ramp was built on the east side of the building.
